I’ve been noticing a huge buzz about MuleSoft over the past few months and, as an Admin, it got me wondering what MuleSoft had to do with me, and what did I need to know?
I decided to explore exactly why an organisation might need MuleSoft and what benefits they might expect to see.
What is MuleSoft?
Acquired by Salesforce in 2018, MuleSoft’s powerful Anypoint Platform enables businesses to connect any system, application, data, or device, creating a single-unified view. This is integration on steroids.

Why MuleSoft, why now?
MuleSoft recently released their 2021 Connectivity Benchmark Report which explores key findings and trends from 800 IT leaders across the globe. Unsurprisingly it was clear that the pandemic has significantly increased both the need and urgency for integrated systems that can provide unified digital experiences for customers and employees.
IT teams have been asked to deliver 30% more projects over the last 12 months, however the amount of time spent “keeping the lights one” remains unchanged at 68%. So, despite more demand, IT teams are simply unable to keep up and are working under considerable strain.
IT teams report that a third of their time is spent on integration projects alone, which are notorious for being both time consuming and costly. Even more worryingly, IT budgets are not growing in line with demand.
The report makes clear that integrated, consistent digital experiences are critical to business success; with that in mind, here are my top 5 reasons your organization needs MuleSoft.
Top 5 Reasons Your Organisation Needs MuleSoft
1. Reduce Costs
Historically, there are huge costs associated with integrations due to their complexity and resource required. Often, custom integrations have been developed that are not reusable and are therefore inefficient. They also present ongoing costs as you require a developer each time you need to maintain them. MuleSoft enables you to leverage reusable integrations, pre-built integration templates and even MuleSoft Composer, a tool that enables Admins to create integrations using clicks not code.
Once your integrations are in place, both customers and employees can become more self-sufficient, reducing cost and freeing up that important IT resource for other projects!
2. Increase Customer Engagement
Integrated end-user experiences can significantly increase customer engagement, as reported by 53% of repondants in the 2021 Connectivity Benchmark Report – and engagement is necessary to increase sales.
3. Increase Internal Productivity
Connected internal experiences boast many benefits and 59% of repondants in the 2021 Connectivity Benchmark Report reported an increase in productivity.
4. Complete Data Visibility
Removing data silos and bringing your data together can enable you to really pinpoint with precision issues and areas for improvement. With tight budgets, businesses will need to carefully analyse where to invest and where to make cut backs.
5. Increase Revenue
28% of respondents in the 2021 Connectivity Benchmark Report reported additional revenue growth was generated from APIs (e.g. organisations are seeing an increase in revenue by providing integrated, digital experiences).
The business landscape has changed indefinitely and even as we return to some semblance of normal, the pandemic has highlighted that we need to get smarter and more strategic in order to be successful – things that are impossible without connected systems and data.
