Breaking News: Dreamforce 2020 will be Virtual for the First Time

Salesforce has announced that Dreamforce ’20 will happen virtually – in fact, they have said all events in 2020 will be reimagined virtually.

With the COVID-19 situation affecting most of the world in some way, mass gatherings across the globe have been curbed. This won’t come as a surprise for some people; travel, leisure, hospitality and networking activities seem far into the future. Salesforce announced quite early on in the Pandemic that it would be postponing (or creating virtual experiences for) some events in the first half of the year, including the Sydney World Tour that went completely virtual earlier in March. This will apply to all Salesforce events throughout the end of the year, including Tableau Conference 2020, Tableau Conference Europe, TrailheaDX India and all World Tours.

“Validity”

Only 8 days after publishing our Complete Guide to Dreamforce post for 2020, this is disappointing (but understandable) news for everyone. Dreamforce is the highlight in the Salesforce calendar for a lot of members in the Salesforce Ecosystem. With over 170,000 attendees descending on San Francisco each year, Dreamforce isn’t your average tech conference, but a chance to learn, network, get inspired, and of course, do a little bit of partying on the side.

Whilst Dreamforce is a great experience, let’s be honest, it’s not cheap. While Salesforce makes a great effort to stream a lot of the content online, not everything is recorded or put on YouTube. This could potentially open up more of Dreamforce’s amazing content to the wider public. While it’s too early to speculate on how Salesforce will put together a Dreamforce “Virtual” Edition, I’m sure they will make it one to remember, I mean, one of the keynote speakers last year was Barack Obama! I’m also excited to find out if a Dreamfest substitute will be made virtual, and can they top Fleetwood Mack from 2019?

Whatever the future holds for Dreamforce 2020, I wish Salesforce the best of luck in their organization.
